Good Posture is Not Just for Debutantes
Good posture – the way you carry your body – is not just an appearance consideration. The symmetrical alignment of shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and feet is critical to maintaining a healthy spine and lifestyle. When these body parts are aligned properly, the spine will maintain its natural curve.
If you were standing still, it would be relatively easy to maintain correct posture. But life’s everyday activities – everything from work to toting a heavy handbag to watching television – tug and pull your body’s structure out of line. Did you know the human head, for instance, can weigh as much as 12 pounds? So it’s important to have a general understanding of – and feel for – the relationship between your body’s parts.
Talk with a chiropractor about ways to exercise and get in touch with your body. Practices like yoga, Pilates and the Alexander Technique offer different advantages. Any of these, though, should be learned at the hands of a trained instructor. Before embarking on any of these, you should undergo a through exam by a chiropractor to see if one or another is right for you./=
